BELINDA BELLET, PHD
With over three decades of experience, Dr. Belinda Bellet is a Dialectical Behavior Therapy-Linehan Board Certified (DBT-LBC) clinical psychologist at the forefront of modern mental health care, crisis intervention, and systemic advocacy. As the Founder and Director of Brooklyn Heights Behavioral Psychology Associates (BHBA), she specializes in evidence-based treatments for complex, high-risk cases, with a distinct expertise in disrupting pathological patterns within families to rewire for secure attachment. Her unique theoretical approach seamlessly integrates rigorous behaviorism with evolutionary and developmental attachment research.
Dr. Bellet’s elite training includes studying under the pioneer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Dr. Marsha Linehan, as well as leading DBT innovators Drs. Jill Rathus, Alec Miller, Alan Fruzzetti, and Francheska Perepletchikova. She also trained with Dr. Steven Hayes, the founder of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Her advanced clinical repertoire features certification in Parent Management Training (PMT) alongside deep immersion in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Zen traditions—encompassing multiple silent retreats, including an intensive training focused on the psychological navigation of death and dying.
A recognized authority in acute psychiatric care and disaster psychology, Dr. Bellet served as the Clinical Co-Director of the Interim Crisis Clinic at Bellevue Hospital’s Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP), where she also held faculty appointments at the NYU School of Medicine. In partnership with FEMA, the National Center for PTSD, and NYC municipal agencies, she has served as a critical incident counselor during the city and nation’s most defining crises, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and a high-profile political assassination within City Hall.
Her clinical authority extends into the federal legal system, where she has provided expert forensic evaluations and testified in Federal Court on behalf of torture victims seeking asylum, as well as in Family Court for foster children seeking legal placement.
Today, Dr. Bellet continues to shape systemic, city-wide mental health programs. As an Advisory Partner with NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H), she designs and leads crucial trauma-informed care initiatives for healthcare employee’s system-wide. Notably, during the COVID-19 pandemic, her workshops reached over 45,000 essential workers to mitigate workplace trauma.
Driven by a call to action against the modern epidemic of alienation, Dr. Bellet serves as a contributing expert for the CARE App, a personal health and wellness platform, and also developed a 6-part on-demand DBT course designed to translate her decades of clinical mastery into scalable skills that build inner grit and nurture lasting human connection.
Whether testifying in federal court, training thousands of frontline healthcare workers, or guiding a single family through crisis, Dr. Bellet remains fiercely dedicated to translating world-class psychological science into profound, lived healing.
