PROLONGED EXPOSURE THERAPY FOR PTSD
PROLONGED EXPOSURE (PE) THERAPY promotes new learning that helps to reduce anxiety and fear in people experiencing trauma related symptoms as well as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This evidence-based treatment allows you to gain new perspectives on your trauma, and therapists at BHBA will teach you enhanced coping skills early on to help ease the path of trauma exposure towards your freedom. Therapists at BHBA will help you to decrease your trauma-related symptoms by gradually decreasing your responses to triggers, increasing your confidence in your own resilience, and will help you discover a new engagement in and quality of life.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy with Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that allows for the combination of DBT and PE. DBT has been shown to reduce suffering and distress while increasing the ability to live a life worth living, and PE is one of the most well supported treatments for trauma that is based in exposure therapy principles. PE works to resolve PTSD through exposure to traumatic memories and triggers related to traumas. With exposure, individuals come to no longer fear what once caused them great distress, resulting in a reduction of PTSD. Through DBT-PE, individuals suffering from emotion dysregulation and co-occurring PTSD are able to both treat their emotional suffering as well as their trauma symptoms at the same time, providing much needed relief at an earlier state in treatment than what is typical.
