Derek Scolpino, MA
Derek Scolpino is a first-year student at Long Island University Brooklyn in the Clinical Psychology PhD program. Derek received his B.S. in Business from Roger Williams University in 2011 and has held a career in financial sales since graduating. In 2022, Derek received his M.A. summa cum laude, in Psychology from The New School for Social Research. During his time pursuing his M.A. he contributed to and conducted research related to social justice, the LGBTQ+ community and marginalized relationships across three clinical research labs. He has also lectured to undergraduate students on the process of developing and executing psychological research. Derek recently defended his M.A. thesis which he presented at the 2021 Eastern Psychological Association’s Annual Conference. For the past year, Derek has volunteered as a crisis counselor for The Trevor Project, a crucial organization devoted to helping at risk LGBTQ+ youth. As a future clinician and researcher, Derek is dedicated to serving marginalized communities and bettering the lives of the individuals within them.
In his free time, Derek enjoys going to the beach, long runs, watching new TV series, relaxing with his partner and is an avid gardener with a love for the great outdoors!
